The Professor Julio Acero Award has been established by Prof Julio Acero as a lasting legacy to support the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (EACMFS) and its official journal, while promoting excellence and advancing the specialty, particularly in the field of reconstructive cranio-maxillofacial surgery.
Presented biennially at the EACMFS Congress, the award recognises an outstanding paper published in the Journal of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery during the preceding two-year period. The recipient is selected by the Endowment Committee and the Editor-in-Chief.
The award aims to promote scientific excellence by encouraging the development of early-career colleagues while also recognising the outstanding contributions of established members to the specialty.
No application is required. Eligible papers will be identified from among the ten most downloaded and ten most cited articles published during the qualifying period.
To be eligible for the award, contributing authors must be current Junior Trainee and Undergraduate Student (JTUS) Members on a European training pathway, or Specialist Trainee Members of EACMFS. Authors who have successfully completed specialist training within three years of the date of application are also eligible for consideration.
Recipients must have been members of EACMFS for at least one year and must reside or work within Europe. Non-European JTUS Members and Associate Trainee Members are not eligible for this award. The award has a total value of €2000 and may be shared among multiple eligible contributors, at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief and Endowment Committee.
